Irina Bakanova is Associate Professor, Director of the Museum Center, and member of the Academic Council of The Russian State University for the Humanities (RGGU).  She is Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.  In 2000-2013 she was Dean of the Faculty of the History of Art at RGGU.  Bakanova is a specialist in the history of Russian literature, specifically the subject of literary translation, and holds a Ph. D. in Philology. Her present interests include the history of art museums in Russia; problems of art education; literature and art of Russian emigration; underground art in the context of official culture.  Bakanova is the author of more than 40 publications on the history of Russian literature and museum practice.
